Christian Friedrich was designated for assignment by the Colorado Rockies last week, and then ultimately picked up off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels on Friday. That’s it, just a simple transaction that makes the back page of most newspapers to wrap up an eight-year career for a lefty reliever who has thus far never played for another professional organization in his life.
Christian Friedrich probably didn’t see it coming this way, being a top prospect in 2010 and 2011, and yet, here we are.
Sometimes thinks don’t work out — or maybe they will work out for Friedrich in Los Angeles, because it sure isn’t working out here.
And then what, do you feel bad for the guy? Do you feel bad that Christian Friedrich has made a ton of money to play a game? You can’t feel sympathy for him, at least not total sympathy, but baseball is a grind and these guys go through it. Christian Friedrich is going through it right now, and he probably will all spring with the Angels.
God speed, Christian Friedrich. Good luck and fare thee well as you go through the next phase of your professional baseball career.
